Founded in 1738 and declared Costa Rica‟s capital in 1823, San José is a friendly, cosmopolitan city that‟s nestled in the Central Valley and surrounded by lush mountains and tall volcanoes, some active. It‟s the nation‟s cultural and political hub and nearly half of the country‟s population calls it and the suburbs around it home. Known locally as “Chepe,” San José started out as a small village with fertile soils; the introduction of coffee transformed it into a prominent urban center. (Historic factoid: It was the third city in the world to use electric energy, after New York and Paris.) Most visitors to San José head downtown to explore the pedestrian-only Avenida Central and Plaza de la Cultura, a perfect people-watching spot that is home to cafés, flower shops, the National Theater (one of the capital‟s finest historic buildings), and the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, which houses a collection of ancient gold artifacts. The city boasts a nice assortment of restaurants and bars and a vibrant nightlife, too. It‟s also an excellent base for exploring the Central Valley; nearby sit rainforests, coffee plantations, zip-lines, and rivers for whitewater rafting.

For approximately 40 years, Arenal erupted near-daily, making it Costa Rica‟s most active volcano. It has been dormant since 2010, but the area around it and the nearby town of La Fortuna still buzzes with activity. Adventurous travelers set out for this region of northern Costa Rica to hike stunning rainforests with hanging bridges, sky-blue waterfalls, and fascinating caves. They raft river rapids, horseback ride, zip-line through the jungle, and relax in natural hot springs. The town of La Fortuna itself is a great spot for delicious meals and vibrant nightlight where you can salsa the night away.
Transfer from San Jose to Arenal with Pacuare Rafting tour, lunch (Collective/FD)
This is an early transfer-tour. You will be picked-up between 6:00 and 06:45 am and will be transferred to the Operations Center for a delicious, typical Costa Rican breakfast. After breakfast and changing into rafting gear, we will drive to the rafting put-in on the banks of the Pacuare river.
Once at the river bank, a revision and adjust all necessary equipment for proper fit will take place, along with a comprehensive rafting safety speech and instruct you on paddling basics. You’ll be excited to launch your raft and begin to paddle 30 kilometers deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. You’ll pass through densely vegetated rainforest gorges, view cascading waterfalls, relax in serene pools and experience pounding rapids. You’ll experience the intimate nature of the rainforest and will enjoy an adrenaline-packed day running the Pacuare’s biggest rapids, with names like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas and more. At the take-out, a short drive back to the Operations Center will lead you to a delicious lunch. You can also take a shower and change your cloth. Optional drinks and a handy souvenir store are also available. Then you will connect with your next destination.

Located just outside the town of La Fortuna, en route to the Arenal Volcano National Park, Arenal Springs offers a handful of junior and master suites in a lush, landscaped garden. Each offers volcano views and a private terrace; master suites also boast hot tubs and outdoor showers. There are two pools (one for kids and one for adults) and a poolside bar, but the big draw are the hot springs that feed four on-premise pools of varying temperatures. There is also a spa and a yoga deck (with individual yoga classes available), as well a handful of restaurant options serving everything from sushi to pizza.

Arenal Thrilling Canopy is located within the Arenal Conservation Area, and is without a doubt a healthy release of adrenaline and an incredible immersion in nature with a moving panoramic view.
Your tour will begin with a brief safety speech, then your equipment will be put on and carefully checked by certified bilingual guides. The guides are fully trained in first aid, vertical rescue, and have ample knowledge of the Flora and Fauna. Enjoy this thrilling aerial adventure of approximately 3 km, starting from a tower 13 meters high and glide your way down 10 cables made with the best galvanized stainless steel, ranging from 80 meters to 750 meters in length, with an average height of 38 meters. Speeds will top 60km per hour! Each of our 14 platforms, 5 of which are constructed in extraordinary trees, were strategically designed at varying heights to allow our clients to observe the rainforest from different angles and photograph the awe inspiring scenery.

Arenal Volcano National Park Hike & Tabacón Hot Springs with Dinner (Private/HD/Minibus)
Embark on a half-day tour of the famous Arenal Volcano National Park, a 12,000 hectare (30,000 acre) stretch of land that comprises rainforest, savannah, and two volcanoes. (A large chunk of this area was devastated during Arenal’s massive eruption in 1968.) You’ll explore the park on a 45-minute hike along a sandy trail and over a lava field (formed in 1992) as your guide explains on volcanism, Costa Rican geography, and the history of Arenal, which was once the most active volcano in the country. The hike culminates at a spot with excellent views for photograph shooting. Afterwards, you’ll be transferred to Tabacón Grand Spa where you will be able to enjoy a relaxing immersion in the resort’s hot springs. A buffet dinner is included in Tabacón hot springs.

Grab your helmet, strap on your harness and prepare yourself for the adventure of a lifetime! Canyoneering is a brand-new sport that‟s becoming very popular all over the world, especially in Costa Rica. The rugged, mountainous terrain near the Arenal Volcano is perfect place for first-timers and experienced canyoneers. Hike deep into the forest and rappel down massive waterfalls with the largest being 60 meters! Go where very few have had the privilege to roam!
Upon arrival at the canyoneering house, you will be greeted by the guides who will suit you up with helmets and harnesses and then give you the 101 on canyoneering, complete with safety instructions and demonstrations. Start off the repelling leg of your adventure with the first waterfall referred to as “the Baby”, a small sized waterfall that allows you to practice and ease your way into learning the ropes- literally! Then hike deep into the rocky terrain of the wet and wild rainforest, surrounded by huge rocks, trees, and flowing streams. You‟ll soon reach the “Big Boy”, the second largest waterfall. There is a platform looking down into the depths of a massive 45 meters tropical waterfall from where in a few minutes, you‟ll have experienced your first guided, adrenaline pumping free fall.

The tours focus in the area around Arenal Volcano National Park and Arenal Lake. Since bikes are not allowed inside the National Park, we use different roads just outside of it. Enjoy the colorful birds and mammals around the lake‟s shores while the magnificent Volcano poses in the background as one of the most photogenic mountains in Costa Rica.

After the pick up at the hotel, you will be transferred the Arenal Lake. Enjoy a pleasant morning or afternoon kayaking in the Lake Arenal with breath taking views of the Arenal Volcano. During the trip you may observe different species of birds like the “Flycatcher”, “Kingfisher”, “Great Blue Heron” and “Anhinga”. The tour includes: transportation, kayak, life jacket, oars, tropical fruit snack, beverages, and bilingual naturalist guide. Corcovado is the last remaining Pacific lowland rainforest of sustainable size in Central America and has been called “the most biologically intense place on earth” by no less an authority than the National Geographic Society. Here among Costa Rica‟s largest trees can be found Central America‟s densest populations of tapir, jaguar and scarlet macaws. Constrained within this tropical wilderness is an immense biodiversity and this will be your chance to explore it.

Caño Island Snorkeling Tour
Snorkel in the clear warm waters and protected coral reefs off the shores of Caño Island, and then relax with a picnic lunch on the beach at Casa Corcovado. Your tour starts after a leisurely breakfast, when you‟ll meet your guide at the Gear House to select your flippers and mask. It‟s then a 40-minute boat ride to the „Coral Garden‟. At certain times of the year, you may also see pilot or humpback whales, and dolphin along the way. The snorkeling site is located within a marine reserve, and is a good place for spotting a wide variety of fish and marine mammals, including – if you are lucky – manta rays, turtles and small white-tipped sharks.
